APS brings poets and poetry lovers together to meet, mingle, and support each other. We offer monthly programs and contests. Austin Poetry Society resumes its monthly meetings on Saturday, September 18th when we come together to hear Katherine Durham Oldmixon, on “The Alchemy of Poetry: Images to Idea and Imagery.” Dr. Oldmixon teaches writing at Huston-Tillotson University. We meet at 1:30 p.m. in the Austin History Center, 911 Guadalupe (beside the main public library). APS Fourth Thursday Open Mic meets again from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on September 23rd. After featured readers, a round robin open microphone gives you the chance to share your poetry with us. Ralph Hausser hosts the series in NeWorlDeli, 4001 Guadalupe. On Saturday, September 25, Susan Rogers guest hosts the APS Poetry Critique Group, in the upstairs dining area in Central Market, 38th at Lamar. Bring 8 copies of one or more of your poems for friendly discussion. If you like, write a new poem in praise of a place. |
