About the Society

The Austin Poetry Society (APS) was formed in 1949. Since that time, the society has held numerous contests, published anthologies and chapbooks, and held public meetings that have featured some of the most influential poets and artists from Austin, TX, and beyond. In March 2008, the APS became a certified non-profit organization. APS board members, society members, and volunteers remain vital to the organization, which currently holds monthly, annual, and special contests, issues as many poetry publications as funding allows, and holds public monthly meetings. In addition, the APS regularly faciliates public poetry programs, initiatives, readings, and workshops, and makes continual efforts to contribute time and resources to other literary organizations, schools, and individuals that engage in literary efforts. The chief goal of the APS is bring poetry to every member of the Austin community.
